Non-standard constructions

What is a non-standard construction?

During the 1950's and 1960's a number of different types of non-standard constructions were used predominantly by Local Authorities. These included steel frames, concrete frames, concrete panel and no fines concrete as well as many other types.

Some designs of non-standard construction fall into the category of ‘designated defective’ under the Housing Defects legislation.

The Investigation

To undertake an assessment to identify the type of construction and advise upon the present structural integrity of the loadbearing elements and likely lifespan.

Dependant upon the type of construction, this investigation may involve exposure of the loadbearing elements, ie steel frame, and / or further examination of these elements via endoscopic inspection.
